Woodworker’s Hardware
I’m sure that if you were to go into your workshop you’d be able to lay your hands on a number of items of woodworker’s hardware, without any trouble, and probably several others with a bit of trouble, but do you know what all of them are actually used for?
Quite often we’ll buy new tools with a specific project or woodworking ideas in mind, unfortunately however, we don’t tend to have many projects lined up that we’ll use our woodworker’s hardware for afterwards; it just becomes another thing that’s stopping us from completely tidying up the workshop.
You could just decide that you aren’t going to be doing any projects in the future, and sell the tools; but you’ll probably find that you don’t get much for most second hand woodworker’s hardware, and there really are plenty of other projects out there that you could be doing; even if it’s only to put those tools to some use.
How about, as an example; getting plans to build a boat; putting together your own billiards table, if you’re allowed to, that is; sorting out all of those DIY projects that always seem to add up, but never seem to decrease again; if you’re into your gardening, then you could get some greenhouse plans; or, if you really want to go green, what about building your own wind generator?
Of course, you probably won’t have seen most of those plans in any of the woodworking magazines that you may have been getting; or, if you have, they’ve probably looked far too complicated to do, so you’ll have just closed the book again, and wondered about selling items on auction sites, right? You don’t need to do that because these kinds of projects are completely achievable, and you already have most of the woodworker’s hardware that you’re going to need.
What about the bit where they seem to be too complicated to do? Well most of that is down to the fact that you don’t always get all of the information that you need in order to complete the projects. Most magazines will assume a certain level of expertise in each of the projects they include, which, unfortunately, can often mean that they seem to exclude a few things that are going to make sense of what you’re supposed to be doing.
Not all plans are like that, though, and you can find more than 16,000 of these easy to follow projects over at TEDSWOODWORKING.COM. What is it that makes these plans easy to follow? Well, for a start they don’t assume any previous knowledge, which is a big help; they give you far more detail in the step by step instructions than the magazines do; and they give you a lot of pictures of how things should be looking at the various stages leading to completion, which is very useful.
So, if you’ve finally decided that keeping a hold of your woodworker’s hardware is the smart option, but you really do need to have a project, or 16,000, so as to be able to do something with them, then you know that tedswoodworking.com is going to be able to supply you with all of the projects you could ever need. Who knows, you may even decide to add to your collection of woodworker’s hardware after you get the plans that you want.
